Day35 in Wuhan

Leadership Development Course.

Yeap i know it's something crappy. But Hey! think again. It's not. Initially, we did not want to attend it at all as the next day, we have our presentation on Env. Technology so lots of preparation is needed and we need the extra day to do it. Got woken up with heavy knocks on the door at 6.00am. Mind you its 6.00am. Bear in mind, we didn't sleep alot for the last few days either so waking up at 6.00am is indeed a feat! Before this, we were briefly briefed on this programme already. It is something to do with high elements and some thinking skills involved to work as a team. So, boarded the bus and off we go...... 1hours + bus ride and finally we reached Zhong nan branch where the ECE people stayed and study in. Yay! high element! Hmmm..i recalled through phases of my life. It has been a long long time since i last played such things. So i don't mind giving it my all for it and have fun since we already are out here.

So we all got splitted into different groups and off we are to come up with a group name, group logo and a cheer. Initially, everyone was quiet and didnt voiced out as you know we don't really know the people there so there is a mental ice block that we have to break before we can start talking freely. So we went on a few rounds of self introduction and stuff. Untill someone came out with a group name in which no one objects to it at all. It is..... "Afro" Wow! why Afro??? That is because our group has this guy, which was elected as our group leader had an Afro hair. So its called Afro. And the best thing is that, the logo of our group is also a head with Afro hair!!! Now the cheer.! something to do with the hair too... Hmmm.. So we had our logo, cheer and Group name up! And tada, let the game begin! Oh one thing that i missed out is that on that day, my group has 2 mute =) basically me and Meiyi which sort of lost our voice due to sore throat..Argh!! such timely arrival.

And at this point of time, we realised only with voice can we have our thoughts and prescence voiced out, we were not at all regarded in the group. Poor us.. T.T So the 1st task we are given is to construct a Tank's conveyor belt using only a limited resource of 33piece of newspaper. But the conditions is that everyone in the group, 20+ of us is suppose to fit into the belt and have a race.. No items capable of sticking the newspaper together were allowed to be provided to us. So this is the most difficult part of the thing. How to get the news paper connected together. Cracking our head for about 5-10mins, we finally came out with a very good idea. My idea combined with Mei yi's. Wala! perfect... The rest of the group came out with further ideas to improved on our idea and yeap! with many hands and brains working together, we completed the conveyor belt in 30mins.

Every "mute" has its day i would say. haha=) During the race, we lack of the voice and unity to shout out steps command so we came in 2nd. Well that is our only flaw..Well nevermind..At least we were told we were very innovative and creative to come out with such intelligent idea of connecting the newspaper together.Good enough..right now, the ice wall has already started to melt its way at rapid speed..This game emphasize the importance of doing things as a team as without the so many brains and hands working together as one, nothing will be done so fast and efficient. So it is already about lunch time and we were ask to go for lunch. We stick by our group and had lunch together with them. Went to their school compound and tried their strongly recommended fried rice. Well not bad i would say. Better than our school one! Brought red tea hoping it would relieve the sore in our throat. And yes it did to an extend.. After lunch, we visited the ECE's group dorm..Seriously unfair man! their living conditions is like heaven to earth as compared to ours.

Their bed is soft and comfy. They have 2toilets, one with a toilet bowl! that is something we don't have in our dorm. They got a common living room, balcony and most importantly, ROOM SERVICE that changes their bedsheets every wed of the week. Seriously jealous! we do not have such things provided for us. So sad. But thinking back, i still love our dorm. the cosiness, the togetherness, the slamming of doors, knocking on the next door to play around with our friends. That is something that they don't experience.=) Soon, time is kicking in and we need to be back to continue our 2nd part of the event. So the 2nd challenge is " infront got trouble, behind must support" this game is that one of the team mate is selected to be the frontline and the rest is supporting role.

And when the instructer shouts out infront trouble, behing support and an item and quantity is stated, the supporting teammate is suppose to provide it to the frontline guy. Simple as that. And at the end of the game, the guy in the frontline is suppose to return the stuff provided by the supporting teammate without asking whoes item isit. So its a test of observation skills. Now,the 3rd challenge in the afternoon is called "Game of trust in free fall" as the name already suggested, one has to stand at about 2.0m high platform and free fall backwards, having faith and trust in your teammates below that they will catch you when you fall. So this is a test of faith, trust and confidence in your team. Seriously scary when you call. At that very moment when you fall backwards, your mind will go blank, carrying the hope and faith that your teammate will catch you when you fall. So obviously they did...If not i won't survive to type this. This game emphasize the importance of trust in one another and having the faith and confidence in your team mate.

The 4th challenge is "Jumping over the broken bridge". One is suppose to climb to a height of about 8m high and there is a bridge that is broken and has a gap of about 1.5m wide and one is suppose to jump over to the other side of the broken bridge. Simple as that. Wide legs people like me has no problem at all crossing that.Building of confidence and with the cheer and support of your team mates, you can overcome anything. Last but not the least! Rock- Climbing! i decided to go for it with alan together with me. Well apprently its not as easy as i thought it was. I only completed like 3/4 of the wall and i fell down. Seriously straining my hands and seriously to a stage where i do not know where to grab as the stones are running out. Seriously difficult! Well among us, only Yisheng completed the rock climbing..Congrats to him and yeap! he has done a seriously good job. You sure done yourself proud.! Soon, everything has come to an end and we ended off with 3cheers and thank you for the instructers that has trained us. I seriously love my group!

Go Afro GO! the unity and team spirit. Seriously good.hahaha=) After that, took a short walk in the campus's lake and took some photos and after that, went back to WUST after a tiring day and toil through the night with packed dinner to complete our presentation slides and report with research..
